Saras begins operating in the wholesale market in Spain (Saras Energia) and Italy (Arcola Petrolifera)

A new mild hydrocracking plant (MHC) enters operation (70,000 bl/day)
        
         Beginning 2000s: Further investment in high-tech plants

Construction of the IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) plant that generates electricity from heavy residues produced by refining (TAR)

Completion of a second MHC plant

2005: investing in renewables
The Ulassai (Sardinia) wind farm enters operation with installed capacity of 72 MW

2007: upgrading of some refinery key units successfully completed

Registration EMAS (Eco Management Audit Scheme)

Obtained the AIA (Integrated Environmental Authorization)

Refinery record runs reached 15.5 million tons (113.3 million barrels)

Start of the TGTU (Tail Gas Treatment Unit) allowing a reduction of 30 – 35% of the sulphur dioxide global emissions

Start of the gasoline desulphurisation unit
