We operate in the wind power-sector through Parchi Eolici Ulassai, fully owned by the Company. Parchi Eolici Ulassai is the sole shareholder of Sardeolica, an operating company that owns and manages the wind farm located at the municipality of Ulassai, in central-eastern Sardinia.
The Ulassai wind farm is designed to have a total power-generation capacity of 72 MW when operating with 42 turbines, which can be technically extended to 96 MW if the required permits are obtained.
The wind farm programme, and its construction in Ulassai, are a response to international and national requirements to produce energy from renewable sources, so as to satisfy the growing demand for energy and to manage the increase in consumption and the needs of the population, while respecting the environment and common interest, and achieving sustainable development.
Wind energy benefits from a special regime that provides incentives for the generation of electricity from renewable non-fossil sources. This system comprises two related components: first, all producers and importers of over 100 GWh of power generated from non-renewable sources are required to supply the GSE (national grid operator) with a minimum quota of energy from renewable sources, and second, the GSE assigns green certificates to plants that produce energy from renewable sources, which other operators can purchase (thereby earning income for the producers of renewable energy) in order to meet the minimum quota of energy from renewable sources.
The Ulussai wind farm was awarded IAFR (plant fed by renewables) certification by the GSE and will benefit from green certificates for 12 years as a result.
