Harmonisation of oil products with the new European specifications

For Saras, energy efficiency is an objective to be pursued along the whole energy chain, from generation to use of the finished product.
In order to reduce the impact on the environment of its operations, the new U800 desulphurising unit, which came on stream in the second half of 2008, will enable the refinery to produce only high-quality gasoline, in line with European specifications which, as of 2009, will require sulphur content to be 10ppm or less.

The TGT unit, a plant that treats gas outflows from sulphur recovery facilities, will also be operational in the second half of 2008, enabling a further reduction of atmospheric emissions.

These initiatives have led to a progressive reduction in the quantity of sulphur in the refinery’s oil products and the sulphur oxide emissions in the atmosphere, associated with their processing cycle.
