The External Emergency Plan

The External Emergency Plan is co-ordinated by the Prefecture of Cagliari and drawn up through a preliminary procedure that involves numerous local bodies, law enforcement agencies and emergency services, including the Region, Province, Municipality of Sarroch, the fire service and the local health authority.

The plan concerns the industrial area of Sarroch as a whole, and considers hypothetical accidents at one of the sites belonging to the various companies located there (Saras, Polimeri Europa, Sasol Italy, ENI, Liquigas, Air Liquide Italia), which may result in damaging consequences for the region outside the facilities.

The External Emergency Plan establishes the methods and timing of any action, providing for:

• the direct management of the event within the production facility
• the monitoring of the external region concerned
• the provision of information and assistance to the local population (road infrastructure, health structures, information channels)

In December 2007, Saras obtained certification for its Health and Safety System in the Workplace based on the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard.
